About

Alyssa “Lys” Carlson

I began training dogs at 12 years old, when my sister and I volunteered for several years as Puppy Raisers for Canine Companions for Independence. I went on to train my own dogs, my friends’ dogs, and my neighbors’ dogs! I love to educate people on how to meet the social and emotional needs of their dogs, and how to make conscious decisions when choosing a new pet that benefits both the dog and the family.

I currently work at a private shelter in addition to offering in-home dog training services here in San Diego. This unique perspective helps me to match the dog to the person: shelter, re-home, or puppy from a breeder. I have been in both rescue and breeder worlds and I love the uniqueness that each brings. There is NO shame in whatever is the best fit for you: I am a big believer in supporting ethical practices that mitigate our overpopulation dilemma in the United States.
