Find Your Dog
Do you know what to look for in a dog?
How do you go about making sure that the cute puppy in the pictures on the breeder’s website won’t have significant health or behavioral issues? How do you know that the adorable shelter dog will be safe in a home with kids? How do you choose the energy level, personality, and qualities in a new pet that will be the best fit for your family? How do you pick a puppy that has the temperament for a future service dog?
I love helping families answer these complex and important questions. I spend much of my time training dogs that aren’t the best personality or energy fit for that particular family, and I believe trainers have, to some extent, let dog owners down in this area. We come in to fix a problem that never should have occurred to begin with, had you been equipped with the support and knowledge to make the best choice for your family.
Do you live in San Diego County and need someone to come and meet the shelter dog you’re interested in with you? I can assess temperament and behavioral issues with you on the visit, as well as consult with staff. There is never a guarantee that a shelter dog will exhibit the same behaviors in the home that they will in the shelter, however having an expert in the field attend a visit with your family can give you peace of mind and help to steer you in the right direction.
The Find Your Dog service is best done virtually! We will meet together online to discuss your hopes, desires, and goals for your pet. Then I will research breeds for you and give you a short list to choose from of what I think will be the best fit for your needs. From there, I will contact and vet breeders for you, and connect the two of you together once we have found the perfect match.
If you need advice on what to look for and what questions to ask a shelter or breeder and would like to proceed with the process on your own, or you are not local to San Diego and would like to consult with me, I offer a fee-for-service hourly phone or video consultation.
